FCC Industrial completes the design and construction contract for the most advanced fuel storage plant in Latin America

FCC Industrial has completed the design and construction contract for the new fuel supply system at the new Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima (Peru).

This new infrastructure represents a milestone in innovation in air transport in Latin America, as it is the most advanced airport fuel supply infrastructure in the entire region. The new facility, which covers an area of five hectares, has four storage tanks with a total capacity of around 35,000 m3, which will increase the airport's autonomy from two to eight days of fuel stock. Ten tanker truck unloading stations, four storage tanks, a storage tank containment dike, a tank-to-tank transfer pump, two loading platforms, eight pumps for supplying fuel to the airport's hydrant system, a drinking water system, a wastewater treatment system, an operations and maintenance building, a fire pump station and a control and electrical building. In addition, it has seven fuel reception islands incorporating state-of-the-art filtering systems and six pumps for dispatching fuel to the hydrant network.

The fully automated plant is operated from a control centre and is designed to minimise any impact on the environment, as well as being equipped with the latest safety and prevention systems.

The new Jorge Chávez Airport is a strategic location for the development of Peru and the region, tripling its capacity with a total area of 935 hectares. With more than 24 million passengers in 2024 and a 15% increase over the previous year, the new Lima airport is expected to be able to accommodate up to 40 million passengers, becoming one of the main air hubs in Latin America.

FCC Industrial's extensive experience in airport industrial infrastructure

FCC Industrial has also carried out industrial infrastructure work for Exolum at Dublin International Airport, improving the fuel supply capacity for aircraft, increasing refuelling and reducing aircraft waiting times. It built a fuel loading facility for the airport's tankers, as well as a network of underground pipes and refuelling hydrants at the edge of the runway for aircraft and fire protection facilities. It built three double-walled storage tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, which complement the existing ones and increase the airport's fuel storage capacity and air traffic potential.
