FCC Industrial has managed to get the Teatro Real the Energy Savings Certificate
FCC Industrial, thanks to the various actions it is carrying out at the Teatro Real, has managed to get the first Energy Saving Certificate as an Asset of Cultural Interest, making it one of the most sustainable and efficient large theatres in Europe. Specifically, it moves up two places on the energy certification scale (from D to B).
The Teatro Real is considered an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the category of monument. Before FCC Industrial's participation in the development of maintenance and energy efficiency improvement activities, its energy consumption was 2 GWh/year. The aim of FCC Industrial's activities in the building was to drastically reduce this expenditure with interventions in the air-conditioning and lighting installations and structural elements, without compromising the architectural integrity of the complex. Thanks to the efficiency improvements implemented, the Teatro Real will achieve a final energy saving of 963,159 kWh/year. In other words, a 48% reduction compared to previous consumption levels, the equivalent of not emitting 263 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere or the annual absorption capacity of 1,575 trees.
One of the most outstanding aspects of the transformer project is the compendium of different sustainable technologies used both in the saving and efficiency actions and in the generation of renewable energy. Thus, the planned photovoltaic roof will generate 189 MWh/year. Geothermal resources have also been used for air conditioning, and work has been done on the building's thermal envelope, replacing obsolete lighting with LEDs, among other things.
This is the first singular energy efficiency action - non-standardised - registered in the Energy Saving Certificates (CAEs) system at national level. This pioneering milestone inaugurates a system that provides a double profitability to its holder: that of the energy saving itself and the sale of this certified saving, generating extra income and favouring investment in efficient and sustainable technologies.
With this unique and pioneering action, FCC Industrial has positioned itself as a leader in the Spanish building maintenance market and in improving the energy efficiency of buildings.
