FCC Industrial wins award at the KOBAH Spain 2024 Excellence Awards
FCC Industrial has won an award at the KOBAH Spain 2024 Excellence Awards for the new Alcañiz hospital project (Teruel). The new Alcañiz hospital is the first completed case in Spain where a public administration has directly applied Lean methodologies. It is a pioneering example of how the Spanish administration can implement Lean Construction methodologies using the Public Sector Contracts Law to provide service to citizens.
The hospital will serve a reference population of 72,290 people from 85 municipalities. It has a surface area of more than 53,300 square metres, with four floors, the last of which will be open-plan for potential growth of the hospital.
The new complex will have 162 hospital beds (which could be increased to 266 in the future), as well as an ICU service with eight ICU stations. The emergency department has two resuscitation stations, two triage consultation rooms, seven boxes, three treatment rooms and 11 observation stations. The surgical block has six operating theatres and six URPA (Post Anaesthesia Recovery Unit) stations, and the obstetric block has three delivery rooms.
There is also a rehabilitation area, 11 radiodiagnosis rooms, and the outpatient services area. The latter has 62 outpatient consultations, 20 haemodialysis stations, five for sample extraction and oncology (11 stations), medical (6) and surgical (8) day hospitals. The hospital also has clinical analysis, microbiology and pathology laboratories, a pharmacy, preventive medicine, user services and documentation, teaching and research (with an assembly hall and library), and general services, personnel and management areas.
FCC Industrial has installed the hospital's electrical installations, making it a real benchmark in the development of energy-saving measures.
