FCC Industrial wins telecommunications and energy contract for Barcelona Metro Line 9 stations

FCC Industrial and COMSA have won the telecommunications and energy contract for the remaining stations on Barcelona Metro Line 9. The joint venture is made up of FCC Industrial and COMSA Industrial (35% each) and FCC Construcción and COMSA Construcción (15% each).
The contract is worth over €100 million and has a completion period of 72 months. It covers the installation of telecommunications systems, electrical networks, signalling, control and safety elements that will enable the line to operate in optimal conditions. The work will be carried out using BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodology, a digital platform that integrates all the planning, execution and maintenance data for the infrastructure into a single model.
This methodology, pioneered by FCC, facilitates team coordination and reduces the likelihood of cost overruns and delays.
The completion of Line 9 is considered strategic for the competitiveness of the metropolitan area. It will improve connectivity to critical infrastructure such as the airport, strengthen mobility to industrial and university areas and relieve congestion on other metro lines.
Once completed, Line 9 will become the longest automatic metro line in Europe, with a route length of 47.8 kilometres and 52 stations.
