FCC Industrial wins the contract to improve public lighting in the city of Madrid
FCC Industrial has won the contract to improve street lighting in seven districts of the city of Madrid. The districts are Chamberí, Tetuán, Chamartín, Salamanca, Retiro, Fuencarral-El Pardo and Moncloa-Aravaca. The aim of the project is to adapt the current configuration of public lighting to improve lighting on both pavements and roads, as well as to replace the old luminaires with others with lighting fluxes more suited to each of the locations, which will be carried out on the basis of lighting studies.
Specifically, the project envisages the replacement of 2,408 luminaires in these 27 streets over a period of 8 months. These improvements will lead to an average energy saving of 39.5%, as the old sodium vapour luminaires will be replaced with energy-efficient LED luminaires.
At present, Madrid's public lighting system has a total of 251,676 street lights, of which 151,595 are LED. Since June 2019, the capital has gone from having 35.6 % of its lighting in LEDs to more than 60 %.
